There is a variety of travel insurances that is available to you. Be your personal insurance carrier, your credit card company, travel agents and other specialists. All of which offer different forms of travel insurances. Sometimes even an auto or health insurance already cover travel insurances, which might be related to your vacation! And this poses the question, of which of them should you choose. There are 3 major types of travel insurances. Let’s quickly run through them and thus help you make a clearer decision.
1. Medical insurance.
For medical insurance, make sure you check the Terms and Conditions for age limits. Some insurance policies charge higher for seniors. The medical coverage includes medical and dental expenses incurred because of injury or illness. A medical evacuation, which covers your transportation to a hospital in case you are injured in a remote area, is typically included in medical insurance.
2. Travel insurance or Trip protection.
It can be purchased for a single or annual multi-trips basis. This insurance has 3 parts:
A) Cancellation coverage:
Prepaid expenses will be reimbursed, in case you need to cancel your trip due to illness or if a family member is sick or dies.
B). Delay coverage:
The second one deals with transportation delays. In the event that your flight is delayed due to snow, your prepaid hotel expenses are covered.
C). Trip interruption protection:
The last type is used in the event that you get sick while away and you want an interruption policy.
3. Luggage and/or car rental insurance.
It covers a rental car in case of an accident, and your baggage and personal items if are lost, damaged, or stolen. Take note however that most policies of this type do not cover loss or damage in flight! Or if the items are too expensive items.
With this type of travel insurance, also make sure you read through the Terms and Conditions . Further, look for policies that offer not only monetary coverage but also travel assistance.
Okay. Once you understand the types of insurance, and you know what you need, the next thing to do is to buy one that can maximise the benefits. To maximise your benefits, simply look through what’s available online, and act on the best choice that is presented to you within your budget.
Good luck, we are sure you will find a good insurance tat will put your mind at ease, and will save you in time of trouble.
